Prior to teaming up with Roadrunner, Dream Theater was signed to a seven-album deal with Warner Music Group worldwide. The deal commenced with the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Images And Words (1992), a Gold-certified US release, and concluded, in equal style, with Octavarium (2005), a Top 40 Billboard outing. In August of last year the band issued Score, a live album/DVD (recorded at Radio City Music Hall in New York), which went straight to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard DVD charts, knocking Pink Floyd from the top!

By the following month, the five were holed up at Avatar Studios in New York, working on the new album with veteran engineer/ mixer Paul Northfield (Rush, Queensrÿche, Porcupine Tree). As usual, Portnoy and Petrucci chose to co-produce the project, which features seven compositions (one a 25-minute epic), and word on the grapevine is that the Dream Theater/Roadrunner alliance looks all set to kick off with a classic.

As previously reported, Dream Theater was set to perform a classic album at the second show of their two night stand in Amsterdam (and again in London). This album was revealed last night to be Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Joining the boys on stage were Mike Kidson on saxophone (from "the Australian Pink Floyd Show") and Theresa Thomason (from DT's "Scenes from a Memory"). The tracks performed were:

On Friday February 25th 2005, Dream Theater wrapped up recording on their latest album. Mixing will be begin on Monday February 28th and the record will be delivered to the label in Mid-March. A release is expected for sometime around May/June through Atlantic Records.

Dream Theater began writing and recording their latest album last November at the world famous Hit Factory studios in New York City. (everybody from Michael Jackson, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Britney Spears, U2, Mariah Carey, REM, etc. etc. have all recorded at the legendary studio)
As has been reported in the media several weeks ago, the famous recording studio is closing down upon the completion of Dream Theater's recording session.

This album will hold the distinction of being the VERY LAST album ever recorded at the Hit Factory in NYC. (the first was Stevie Wonder's "Songs In The Key Of Life") After the Dream Theater sessions ended on Friday night, the lights were turned off and the doors were locked to the world famous studio - ending an era in the music industry....

Dream Theater was scheduled to head back in to the studio today to write and record a new studio album. More updates as we get them.

Dream Theater played The Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden as their classic album in the UK and France second night shows. We are working on getting some/all of the tracks and will keep you posted. Also, of note, is that they played Gangland twice at the France show and mentioned that they were recording the show.

Also, at the France show, Dream Theater played Your Majesty for the first time in 16 years. A recording of this is available on Downloads Page.

Dream Theater will appear on the CBS Morning Show on September 14th according to this press release from Elektra.
