I bought a couple of silver discs from Mike Bahr and had absolutely no problem with him or his service. Glad to see he's starting to redeem himself in some fans' eyes. I saw DT for the first time in November 1997, in Washington D.C. I met up with a group of Ytsejammers who congregated in the basement of some guy's house in Bethesda. Wish I had gotten there earlier so I could have jammed with you all! It was outside that show at the Capitol Ballroom, where the "Bafu" shout began. (We actually *were* looking for Bafu Vai!) The next time I went to see DT, I also was desparately looking for Bafu. I was a college student without a car, and he was supposed to give me a ride to the show in Baltimore. He was supposed to pick me up at a train station in DC, but he accidentally told me to go to the wrong one! I waited there for an hour, and finally decided he must not be coming. So rather than do the responsible thing (go home) I took a commuter train up to Baltimore, took a $40 taxi to this SHITHOLE bar in the boonies, and saw a great DT show. After the show, it was 1AM and I really had no idea how I was gonna get home! Fortunately, I met up with Bafu and Kez and a couple other jammers, and met the band for the first time. I got a free dinner out of it from Kez :) Ryan ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 06 Apr 2002 14:55:40 -0500 From: Barbara Battaglia To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Memory Lane Message-ID: It has been fun going down memory lane. I think we should all try to post here a little more often and try to keep life into this list. I've been absent for a long time because for a while the 'jam had turned into a huge whine-fest (LOL). This was actually the very first mailing list I was ever on. I think the very first person I ever spoke via email on from here was Tom Tubbiola. Tom, if you're still here, say hello!!!! I've been very fortunate, most of the people I started yakking on here with I've kept in touch with over the years :) Ah the ytsejam, I think I'll try to dig out one of my boots that has that exact same tune on.... May well be true -- I got my info from a Century Media press release, but it was sent a couple weeks ago, so could be plans have changed since then. Last I heard Soilwork wasn't touring the US until the fall, and then with In Flames, and Arch Enemy, as far as I know, was only set to play the two festivals this weekend (neither of which I am at, dammit). There aren't dates on any of the bands' websites, so I really can't verify anything. >I would dig a more lenghty review of the cd, I have always wondered about >those guys. Check out http://www.entombed.net/ They've got a bunch of reviews posted for the album, as well as several downloadable MP3s. Duester bud! I knew you'd chime in sooner or later! :) Sorry you missed the Philly show, but Tom and I had kinda crummy seats (2nd & 3rd from the wall, row KK [11] or so). The show was great; the sound wasn't so great where we were. >From: email_address_removed > Philly show was amazing! Drove from Allentown to Philly.. Glad to see a growing number of Lehigh Valley fans aboard! P.S. I'm a Nazareth boy. Maybe DT could do Musikfest sometime soon! ... speaking of which, Kansas will be there this year as well as Blue Oyster Cult and Live, among many others. http://www.musikfest.org >From: Sum WhiteGuy > Home For the Holidays Tour (and meeting a bunch of > other 'old timers' at the Fantazia Diner as we were > all getting kicked out...E-Man, Hairball, etc....) Did you mean D-Man as in (Chris?) Digital Man, or Elliott Kim? Either/or, both were there, as I recall. I sat at a table at the Fantazia with D-Man, Skadz, and ... somebody else. Who were you?? I have a terrible secret to admit. I signed the ACOS petition. Soon after, I got an email from an unfamiliar addy saying something like "Thanks for being a fan, [signed] John". I foolishly deleted it and never forwarded it here. John who I don't know. Might have been a hoax but I doubt it. Some seven years later, Thanks, Either-John, or whoever you were. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Apr 2002 18:18:19 -0500 From: "Dave Thomas" To: "Ytsejam" Subject: Another Old One... I've met a lot of people on this list, or that used to be on this list, anyway. I still have that pic on my hard drive where we had a gathering at our house before a DT show in SF. That was a fun day. I ran a website for awhile that some of you might have visited occasionally. It's still out there, but hasn't been updated in about two years. I still think about updating it from time to time. We'll see. I live in Baltimore now with my two cats. I'm divorced (not my idea or really anything I did, but other than financially, probably a good thing for me) and trying really hard to find a better job. I'll probably go to The Flower Kings show at Jaxx next week, though will likely have to leave before the show is over (stupid Thursday night shows) so I can get some sleep before work the next day. I'll wear either a Spiral Architect shirt or some sort of roller-coaster related shirt. Come yell at me if you like (I'm sure someone will). OK, back to my cave... They'd just finished up a set of 80s teen movie songs (you know, stuff by Orchestral Manoevres in the Dark, Simply Red, Michael Sembello) and were starting into the 5:00 hour (central time). It appeared to be a hard rock block, as they started out with Motley Crue's "Wildside." Then, they played... PULL ME UNDER. Absolutely no shit. I marked out like a little bitch, I turned the TV up to 11, I ran and jumped around, sang along, and experienced that same initial reaction I'd felt when I first saw them on Headbanger's Ball way back in the way back days. So, uh, anyway, I'm a big nerd as I mentioned before, and I tend to watch a lot of VH1 Classic. I happen to know from experience that they repeat all of their videos in 8-hour blocks. This means that you can see PMU played again at approximately 1:05am CST tonight/tomorrow morning. Not that a bunch of us don't have it on the Live in Tokyo video or something, but it's so much BETTER seeing it played over live stream where you just know that someone else is seeing it possibly for the first time. And if you do catch the video, you'll be oh so excited to see a Faster Pussycat video immediately afterwards... hahahaha. But even if you don't get the channel, or you missed it due to this being in a late digest or something, you can rest assured that someone out there in VH1 land knows that OFB exists. And that makes me even happier than watching the video again. --summer '`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' ' Anada e'zine: http://anada.net ' 'METAL: http://www.whitetrashdevil.com' ':): http://gloomchen.livejournal.com ' ' e-mail: email_address_removed ' ' AIM: gloomchen ICQ: 6281357 ' `'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'` ---YTSEJAM-FILTER: This message was posted using the YML command ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Apr 2002 20:15:29 -0500 (EST) From: Rick Audet To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: Another Old One... Ytse and the Jam stuff, yes, I like remembering that, but not stuff like misplaced religious dialogues! :P Anyway, speaking of blasts from the past, when we were at the S.F. show last month, I was wearing the classic "Let the Let Surround You" Ytsejam sweatshirt. While I came in around digest 64 back in the spring of 1993, I have to say that I'm annoyed to see others claim even earlier digests! ;-) Do you expect to outlast me?? OK, to mark the occasion I got off my butt and placed the past 6 months worth of digests into the Ytsejam Digest Archive. You can find it at http://www.interzone.com/Music/Ytsejam -- It's a searchable archive so you can do all kinds of fun things, like find old Bafu posts. Or, find out how many times "irregardless" has been used (it was first used on the Ytsejam in 1997). 8^} BTW, I'm still missing the digests from #1 - #319, 4264-4834, and 5053-5422 if any of you oldtimers happen to have them sitting around (preferably in mailbox format). Message-ID: Hey, Speaking of "oldtimers" and stuff, isn't it hard to believe that the Ytsejam precedes the explosion of the World Wide Web? It wasn't really until around 1994 that the WWW really started to take off. Before that we pointed people to ftp or archie sites (at best) but mostly we traded tapes via USmail. The original Mosaic web browser was maybe a year or two old when the first Ytsejam digest came out and AOL was just moving onto Windows 3.11. These days it's so much easier and faster to point people to new music -- I love how the WWW and computers in general (anyone have a DVD burner yet?) have revolutionized how we access our music (not to mention Napster). We can log onto Bernd's web site in Germany and order Superior's CD without thinking twice. And the Ytsejam community has lived and evolved through it all. What do you think is coming next?
