Due to some technical problems, it wasn't possible to show a video which Mike had prepared on the current recording sessions. However there was a long question and answer section with Mike in French and English) during which he gave some details about the disks they have been listening to while in the Studio (NIN, Pantera, Tool, Radiohead etc) and explained that the new disk was darker, describing it as a mix of Awake and LTE. [NB IT apears that the correct video player wasn't used. IT was viewed yesterday on a SONY and the guys were able to explain on the Your Majesty list, what it contained. The viedo will be available for download from websites soon - when a suitable site is found and the files are converted etc.] During the Q and A sessoin, a guy who used to live in Australia, once again raised the famous 'Australian Question'. Mike patiently explained that the band would like to visit that part of the world, as they had already been to most other places, but at the end of the day it was down to the local promoter to arrange something. Maybe the Australian fans should organise a 'tour fund' along the same lines as the American fans did for Marillion. More and more fans seem to be branching out and promoting events to feature their favourite bands, so maybe now is the time for a fan to pick up and run with the project if the promoters wont. I realize that the airfares alone would represent a considerable cost, but I'm sure that other fans would also chip in. I'm sure that its not quite that simple and that there are other considerations, but I just wanted to mention that the question was raised and that Mike, as ever, would like it to happen. Anyway overall the Q and A was pretty cool. Following that, there was time to buy fanzines, gorge at the CD stalls and try out one of those guitars which JP plays. Just about everyone who tried it out played part of Metropolis or The Silent Man. Are these the first tunes that most DT fans who are guitarists learn to play? After the convention, there was a gig featuring French band 'Regency' who played some interesting Instrumental metal - more interesting to my ears than the LTE disks anyway *Flame shields up*. Then 30 minutes of ARK, who were amazing - especially their awesome vocalist Jorn Lande and finally, after some technical problems some band called Pain of Salvation. I didn't much care for them the first time I saw them, but this time they were great - despite the problems they had with their equipment. Both ARK and Pos were really cool with the fans and it seemed like a good part of the audience joined them after the gig in a pizza restaurant. The metal weekend ended last night with an awesome gig from the dutch band Within Temptation, which was, for me, even better than PoS. Brilliant stuff. That's the problem, there isn't huge interest and the promoters know this. It's been tried already, a petition was sent to a couple of promoters a couple years back and they weren't interested, they even spelt DT name Dream Theatre.... When they replied, that says it all. graham ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 May 2001 13:37:31 +1000 From: "Paul Tadday" To: Subject: Re: DT Convention + The AUSTRALIAN Question Message-ID: <008301c0e595$32a780e0$aa3536cb@PaulTadday> Then explain to me why bands such as Cradle Of Filth, Morbid Angel, Voi Vod, Nevermore, and heaps of other lesser known bands tour here and play shitty pubs and clubs?? You'd be better off asking the promoter of the above bands this and not me. Well obviously the promoters taht bring these types of bands out must know something that you and I don't. I ask myself the same thing, like Planet X touring here... And I would certainly hazzard a guess that sales wise, Cradle Of Filth and Nevermore do more than DT here. graham ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 May 2001 00:00:23 -0400 From: WB Henderson To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: DT Convention + The AUSTRALIAN Question Message-ID: >Then explain to me why bands such as Cradle Of Filth, Morbid Angel, Voi Vod, >Nevermore, and heaps of other lesser known bands tour here and play shitty >pubs and clubs??
