Message-ID: If you are planning on ordering shirts to wear to the upcoming Dream Theater shows, please do it soon. In the best cases, the shirts should get there a week to a week and a half after you send the payment (in the US), and with the tour already underway, that is cutting it close. I've gotten 4 orders in the last week and they have been shipped as quickly as I can get to the bank and post office. I've been talking with Chris Ptacek and there is a chance he might have some of the shirts to sell at the Chicago show on Nov 1st. Also, I will be selling them myself if DT ever actually stops by St. Louis. If you are not going to either of those shows, or you want to have the shirt to wear *at the show* so people can spot you and meet you, then you should order early, because I probably won't be selling until after the show. As always, if you have any questions email me, talk to me on IRC (Gabbo), or call me at (314)645-8649. h t t p : / / w w w . p r o g n o s i s . c o m / g a b b o / | Pat Griffin Reality Squared Design | | email_address_removed email_address_removed | h t t p : / / w w w . p r o g n o s i s . c o m / g a b b o / ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Oct 1997 12:47:24 -0500 (CDT) From: Mauricio Martinez Villarreal To: ytsejam Subject: SUBSCRIBE ME AGAIN!! Plus, I'm forwarding this because I missed it on first read--maybe others did, too. If any of you prog-oriented people have ever heard of a band called Anglagard, or have any access to their music, I can only say, buy it. No questions asked. Best stuff, arguably, that I have ever heard. I do not give that compliment, ever. Two guitar, bass, drum, mellotron, flute, each entirely competent. The music is incredibly expressive, and very compositional in structure. Two albums, Hybris and Epilog, the former with a bit of vocals (in Norwegian, no less), the second all instrumental. I ordered both albums on recommendation, and I cannot speak highly enough of them. Endless replay value, a guarantee to impress musicians, and just damn great music. I hesitiate to compare them--though they are influenced by 70's prog like Yes and King Crimson, they are really just light years beyond. I bow to both these bands, don't get me wrong. It's just... Message-ID: Hi there :-) Shameless plug coming up... For those of you who noticed the irritating white background on the Under A Cyber Moon website... You're probably using Netscape 4.0... It was supposed to look like the back of FII (black, with dark plus signs). I've changed the background from a GIF file to a JPG file, and that seemed to do the trick :-) I ended up changing 65 files and uploading a total of 630 Kb in HTML alone. DIE Netscape DIE !!! Of course, things already looked perfect in Internet Explorer. :-) If you are not familiar with Under A Cyber Moon, take a look at the http://www.prognosis.com/dream/ :-) It has the latest DT news and tour dates, FAQ, Biography, Discography, Songbook, Guitar/Bass/Drum Tabs, Sound clips, Midi's, Programs, Pictures, Links, The IRC page, Info on the 5 Official DT fanclubs, A Guestbook (hint!), Info about both DT mailinglists, old Press Releases and Reviews (new section). It has a list of Recent Updates on the main page, that mentions all the stuff that's been added in the last three weeks. Orginally UACM was a frames site, but you can now view it without frames too ! Any suggestions that would make UACM easier to view for you, are *more* than welcome. If you want to help make UACM better, you can mail me anything that should be on it, but isn't (more tabs, midi's, interviews, reviews, news, DT links, your #Ytsejam irc info, etc.). Also, if you want to do *me* a personal favour, you could bookmark the links for CD Now, CD Universe and Music Boulevard on UACM's links page ! But Ian Thornley, bassist Dave Henning, drummer Forrest Williams, and guitarist Brian Doherty soon found it much more interesting playing gigs than attending classes. Over the next five years, Big Wreck dug in and honed their craft by hitting the road for countless nights of anonymous and grueling roadwork, formulating their powerful sound by plowing over unsuspecting barflies and club patrons with tight, furious sets of original material. Over time, Thornley emerged not only as a formidable guitarist, but also as a captivating frontman and remarkable vocalist. Big Wreck had found just the right mix of collaborative zeal, having shaped their songwriting chops by putting in hour after hour of productive studio time. "We're not just standing on the shoulders of the last big thing," declares Big Wreck vocalist and lead guitarist Ian Thornley. "We're standing on the shoulders of every musician who's come before us. Oh sure, anyone can play a pentatonic blues box, but do they know what it means? Everybody borrows, but not everybody can create something new. You've gotta go back and actually live some of it yourself-not because Ry Cooder said so, but because you want to find out for yourself why Ry Cooder got to be as good as he is. And that means going back to Son House, not Soundgarden. As for us, we don't want to regurgitate whatever the last trend was. Everyone in Big Wreck has a particular musical vision about where they want this band to go: forward." Standing on the shoulders of giants, so the saying goes, leaves some men cold. But not Big Wreck; they've decided to poke their heads through the clouds of the past to chart an explosive future. Big Wreck's Atlantic debut, "IN LOVING MEMORY OF...," is awash in forward-thinking tunes, from the relentless first single, "The Oaf," to the furious dirge of "Overemphasizing," to the delicate touch of the acoustic-tinged "By The Way." Co-produced by Matt DeMatteo and Big Wreck and mixed by Jack Joseph Puig (Talk Show, The Verve Pipe, L7, Tonic), "IN LOVING MEMORY OF..." serves to both pummel and prod its way into the collective consciousness. "Big Wreck's debut, 'IN LOVING MEMORY OF...' has a certain moody intensity... Built on blues and rock grooves, the album showcases Thornley's dark vocals, power chords that frequently crank up to Who and Nirvana levels, and tight catchy melodies." - Guitar World, November 1997 In short, Big Wreck's "IN LOVING MEMORY OF..." is a sharp testament to a shared vision. So get ready, everybody. Something Big is about to happen. 10/97 -Randall Randall Braun - Configuration Services GE Capital ITS, West. Region. Dist. Some of the songs that you guys love so much are really hard for me to get into. Take Away My Pain, both the demo version and the studio version are included in this, as is Just Let Me Breathe, Trial Of Tears, New Millenium and Anna Lee. I think You Not Me, despite its simple format is an excellent song (to vent to) as is Burning My Soul. Peruvian Skies gives me chills everytime I listen to it- I think James sounds very emotional on this track. My favorite track of all right now is Lines In The Sand. Amazing song. The middle part bothers me though, its immensely beautiful but when James sings "we're dying"- I swear I heard that from somewhere before. I think Doug did a great job on this one also. Speak To Me is fastly becoming a fave too...it reminds me of The Cure's Lovesong a lot but I loved that song so maybe thats why I like it so much. The lyrics remind me a lot of Space Dye Vest which is a definite plus. Well, this is pretty boring shit but I tried to put in some DT content.
