Ytsejam Filter

What is the Ytsejam Filter?

The Ytsejam Filter is a program that examines every message that is posted to the Ytsejam list. Depening on the contents of the messages the script can do several things. The purpose of the filter is to reject postings that don't belong on Ytsejam (e.g. spam).

How does it work?

Basically the filter checks a number of things:

• Is the person who posted the message a valid subscriber to Ytsejam?
• Is the person who posted registered as a valid poster?
• Is the message addresses to Ytsejam using To: or Cc:?
• Does the message contain any bad words?
• Did the sender use a subject Re: YTSEJAM Digest XXXX?
• Did the sender use a special subject line to bypass the filters?
• Was the message posted from a priviledged account (e.g. listowner)

Depending on the outcome of these rules the filter decides if the message will be posted. If someone posts without being registered the posting is always rejected and mailed back to the sender. Included are instructions on how to resubmit the posting and bypass the filters. The senders address is then added to the list of registered posters, which means that you only need to resubmit once just to make sure you really intended to post to Ytsejam

If your posting contains a bad word then it is also rejected even if you're a valid subscriber. The list of bad words is a large list of words that are often found in spam messages and usually mean the message does not belong on Ytsejam. However if you really did intend to use the phrase "this is a one time mailing" in your message to Ytsejam you can follow the instructions and bypass the filters.

Bad Words

If any of the following words or sentences is found in your message your posting will be rejected. You will then need to resubmit it to Ytsejam using a special command to bypass the filters. Your message will be marked that it bypassed the filter.
